Welcome to our blog!

Hi there and welcome to our new blog site for the Water Sciences Group at the University of Birmingham. We are a group of researchers who are interested in all things watery from ecology to water chemistry to hydrology and on! We hope that this page will be a place where we can discuss issues and advances in the science, provide some details of the research that we are doing and keep everyone informed of conferences, publications and such like that are coming up. Please feel free to post as much or as little as you want.

a quiet time

It is the middle of the summer holidays and things have gone very quiet with most of the group away on fieldwork or having a well earned rest.  Rest assured though, the water research carries on!  We will keep you posted on developments once the wanderers return!

There are 12 Union Symposia planned, many Symposia and Workshops that are jointly organised by the different Associations, and many more Symposia and Workshops specific to each of the eight IUGG Associations, including:
· IACS International Association of Cryospheric Sciences
· IAG International Association of Geodesy
· IAGA International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy
· IAHS International Association of Hydrological Sciences
· IAMAS International Association of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science
· IAPSO International Association for the Physical Sciences of the Ocean
· IASPEI International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth’s Interior
· IAVCEI International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior
Each Association has their own special page of events and there is also a list of all other Symposia and Assembly Workshops that are related in some way to the Association.
Abstract Submissions and Registration will open on 16th August on the conference website: www.iugg2011.com. So now is the time to think about the symposia relevant to your research, the papers you want to submit, the workshops and fieldtrips you want to participate in, and the vacation you might want to take in Australia, New Zealand or the southwest Pacific after the conference!
We look forward to seeing you at IUGG 2011.
